Psalm 66:18-19

If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear. But certainly, God has heard me; He has attended to the voice of my prayer.

Matthew 7:7-8

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

The Power of Prayer

I have seen the power of prayer. It is real. When you pray a prayer that is not in the dominion of iniquity or the flesh, it indeed comes to pass. There was a time I would pray for something, and it seemed as if it would not get answered. It was as if praying was for nothing. Now I can honestly say those prayers I prayed were perverse, selfish, and full of iniquity against God’s will for my life. I truly believe God did not answer those prayers to protect me. The moment I got saved in Jesus and indeed submitted to His will, He changed my heart. He also changed the way I pray.

As the Lord made me into a new creation, my prayers began to get answered on the spot; almost down to the second. He’s empowered me to pray with 1000% faith. Once the Lord redeemed me from a selfish mentality, with prayers that were outside of the Father’s will and in the flesh, the things I prayed for began to come to pass. This has helped me understand how powerful, important, and impactful prayer is. I know my prayers are granted by God as long as my heart is in the right place, and my flesh isn’t dictating my prayers.

For example, if I pray for 10 million dollars for selfish motivations, it’s not going to happen; but if I pray for inner peace for the right reasons, I get it on the spot in most cases. If I pray for a new car that I don’t need, it’s not going to happen; but if I pray for a friend to receive Jesus, it is going to happen. Now, it may not be on the spot due to people’s free will, but it’s going to come to pass nonetheless. When you hear some say “somebody was praying for me”; they are a living witness of an answered prayer. Now if I pray to God that He gives me the man I want just because I want to be with a man, and God knows it is for the wrong reasons, or that is not what’s best for me, it will not happen.

On the other hand, if I pray to God for the man I want, to find God whether he is with me right now or not, that might just seal him as my husband. Just remember that God’s will is above all requests. Do you see the difference in those prayers? The former is selfish, and the latter is selfless. This concept makes a big difference in how prayer will get answered.

I thank God that, at the age of 25, I am getting to learn and understand the power of selfless prayers. It makes things so much easier for me. My faith now bears fruit, slices it, and serves it. I’ve seen so many times how people pray for things and when it does not happen, they feel God doesn’t exist or doesn’t care about them. That is such a lie from satan. God does exist, and He does care for others. He cares so much that He will not answer a prayer that will hurt you and go against His will for your life.

No wonder He did not answer my prayers of iniquity because those prayers would have killed me. God is a just God. I understand now that God’s Will is His purpose for my life in His kingdom, and God is a just God. When we step outside of God’s will, we walk into a worldly jail. We walk into a purpose we were never meant to walk in. His will and His purpose of making me were to bless me and make me a blessing. We were created to be blessed and be a blessing to God and others. We were made to praise Him.

I remember praying and wanting to become a professional singer. Honey, I wanted to be a superstar! And just to be clear, a sister couldn’t hold a note. But as I got older and closer to God, He turned the desire for fame and gratification from the world into a desire of serving Him. Once I started to sing for God, I was able to execute notes I could never execute before. Now, when I look back at my old requests and thoughts, I thank God He changed my desires. If he had answered my selfish prayers, I would not be the loving, confident, and all-around blessed woman I am now. I would have been a miserable monster. I truly dodged a bullet!

So when those prayers are not answered in our lives, let’s remember that this may be one of God’s ways to protect and benefit us. He wants the best for us; He loves us! That’s why He does the things that He does. He is supposed to. That’s what good fathers do, and He is the best father there is. Let’s re-evaluate our hearts, check our flesh at the door, and then go pray. It WILL come to pass!

– Lord Jesus thank you! Holy Spirit thank you! Father God thank you! Amen
